Asian Architecture

This module introduces us to the history of South, Southeast and East Asian architecture through its architectural design and construction, building science and technology, garden design and city planning. There are three key themes which are sustainability, tradition and modernity & globalisation.

Assignment 01

Contextual Architecture Study

The building that I selected for this study is multipurpose hall of Shaoxing Hotel by UAD. The analysis is based on space organization and access hierarchy, sky line, compression and height, features related to the form of the building, building material and systems, image making elements and dimensions of history and social memories. Through this assignment, we actually managed to look more in depth to the reason behind the contextual architecture elements, their advantages with how they respond to the site and environment more effectively through design.

Assignment 02

Research in Asian Architecture

The research topic our group chosen is sustenance of local place identity through application of contextual architectural design considerations in the School of Kunqu Opera, West Creek Village at China. By addressing three issues we come out with three solution which are through preservation of original footprint of the building, traditional construction methods and by providing a placemarker which acts as a cultural platform to preserve the history of place based on our case study.
