Building Construction II
aims to introduce structures as architecture by developing an understanding of the structural systems in construction technology in a unique way in relation to historical and innovative buildings. Skeletal, solid and surface construction systems are discussed and analyzed in terms of load and forces in a general term.
Assignment 01
Skeletal Construction (Temporary Bus Shelter)
In a group of five, together with Jing Yuan, Cadence, Angel, Kah Ying,we are required to produce a shelter based on the understanding of skeletal construction and its joints. It should be made out of materials other than steel to build the 1:5 scale model. The shelter will be tested to determine its strength and students will be required to analyze the success or failure of their shelter. Analysis should indicate the students understanding of skeletal construction, its joints, loads and forces experienced in a skeletal structure.
It is a great experience as we further explored into wood joints and woodworking. The journey starting from designing with consideration of construction, buying materials, till doing it in a smaller scale compare to real life at the wood workshop is a great experience. Its very enjoyable process to work together with friends and enjoy the fun learning process together.

The woodworking process - a very great experience for us to do it hands-on.
Our final bus shelter model scale 1:5.
Assignment 02
Construction Model
In a group of four, together with Carynn, Jing Yuan and Cadence, we chose gridshell of Savill Building as the building case study.Students will be required to dissect a model of their choice and come up with an analysis of the construction methods used in the building. The students’ analysis should comprise structural system, material, function and load distribution in the building.
