Assignment 01
Assignment 01
Experiencing Construction
This project introduces us to the basic principles and procedures of construction process through real life project. It exposes students to the construction method/technology in response to the site context and train students to produce manual sketches, drawings and detailing relating to the existing construction.
In a group of 5, we are to demonstrate our understanding and knowledge of the construction, material and building technology by observing, analysing and documenting the procedures of preliminary works, types of building foundation, superstructure, walls and staircase, as well as their construction methods of a project/building. We chose Casira2, a double storey residential project by Sime Darby, located at Bandar Bukit Raja. I am in-charge of the preliminaries work of the site.Click here to see the technical report containing the findings stated above.
The final outcome of the project. The sketches of site clearance in the A3 booklet.
The site visit to the Casira 2 construction site.
Assignment 02
Construction Details and Specifications
The second project is designed to allow the demonstration of knowledge and understanding of construction and application from prior projects. Emphasis in producing related manual construction drawing detail and specification. Technical knowledge is viewed as something separate from design. One of the aims of this assignment is to develop an awareness and understanding of the strong inter-relationship between these two areas of study. Critical success of any design project relies on a designer’s ability to address issues of appropriate methods of construction, integration of structure and the selection of materials whilst addressing the many other complex issues that are part of the design process. This assignment will also enable students to develop and demonstrate some knowledge of construction, materials and structural theory in a small scale design project.
The task is to find and analyse the floor plan and section plan on the construction of a 2-storey or 3-storey building, then identify/propose two construction details of the building ranging from wall, door, window, slab, staircase and roof. I chose to document the stud wall and tile gable roof structure of House I by YDS Architects.
The final outcome of the project. Construction details compiled in an A2 tracing paper.
