Building Structure
This module introduces us to principles and behavior of structural forces and components, which includes trusses, slabs, beams and columns. It also introduces teaches us about structural design, structural analysis, load calculations and diagrams.
Assignment 01
Structural Design Post Mortem
In a group of 6, we are required to choose a design scheme from their previous Architectural Design Studio III module and to appraise the existing structural system used in the design. Then, we have to propose some modifications to improve the structural system of the design. From the aspects of safety, feasibility economy, optimization, integration, stability, strength and rigidity, we identify the structural issues of the scheme and proposed appropriate solution to the column, beam, roof, floor slab and more.
Assignment 02
Structural Analysis of a Bungalow
In the same group from previous assignment, we are exposed to the basic process of structural design of a two-storey bungalow. We gain a holistic structural design experience including the basic concepts in structural design, engineering considerations in building structure, quantification of loads and stresses, as well as the estimation of the sizes of structural members.
