Architectural Design Studio V
In semester 5 studio, we are introduce to the urban context and how to respond to the urban context through architectural design. We have to solve an urban issue through the development of a design scheme which engages with the spirit of urban place and the everyday life of the urban community.
Assignment 01
Preliminary Studies
The Site Documentation and Site Analysis will equip us with a firm understanding of the site they will be working with this semester, while the Precedent Studies will provide an insight into architectural responses for designing an urban block of Learning Centre for the Urban Young. Our site located at Jaan Stesen 1, Klang is to be analyzed mainly through three aspects, perception, spatial and social. For our studio group, we analyzes through the eyes of three communities, empathetic insider, existential insider and objective outsider.
Assignment 02
Interwoven Klang Learning Centre
The objective of Interwoven Klang Learning Centre is to create connection to the existing cultural heritage in Klang old town centre. Through the respect of the past, the learning centre aims to acknowledge the present of the Klang historical town’s cultural diversity by introduction of culture fusion to connect and sustain future for the young. The converging path of different communities on site, the collaboration between schools, local artisans, local culture learning centre and local associations are crucial to attract and connect the communities together. The three historic buildings at our existing site are with strong cultural value and have stands and witnessed the changes of Klang through nearly a century. The design intention of the learning centre is to appreciate the value of the traditional trades and culture existing on site while infusing the new elements in program and building into the site to complement the needs and attract the local community especially the young back to the beautiful Klang old town.
Reflection
For this semester, I am really grateful for having Ar. Patma as my tutor, she is always being patient to listen to our idea and gave useful feedbacks to guide us along. Through architecture, we are able to explore more than a dimension of things to have different perspectives and thoughts on the same matter. Always open to new opinions and views yet not losing your own voice is very important. The real experience on site is important and the feeling from atmosphere of the space or place is never can be feel or get through the plan drawings, or photos. I really enjoy the process of discussing the ideas and concept with my tutor and her understanding and support given. Also not to forget, thanks to her encouragement and the opportunity given to go to KLCCD Design Workshop, it turned out to be a really fruitful experience, as well as the opportunity to share my idea with my idol, Ar. BC Ang during facade workshop in studio. Being able to receive feedbacks from him is really like a dream come true moment. Thanks Sem 5 for teaching me a lot from studies as well as the growth in personality.
