Building Materials
Choosing the right material for the building is important to ensure the durability and sustainability of the buildings. This module informs students on the properties, characteristics of general building material used in construction industry with its application and function they played in a building.
The assignments given required students to make case studies which analyze the building materials used and how it affects the user's spatial experience.
Exploring Materials and Spaces
Assignment 01
Building materials complements each and every building elements such as floors, walls, columns, roofs and many more with its various characters and properties. The application of building materials in buildingsis important for the architects in order to signify the function, strength and durability of a space. This assignment is designed to give an exposure to the students on the use of materials in building construction and also allowing them to analyse the reasoning behind the materials choices made by architects.
Building selected : NU Sentral
In this assignment, in a group of 8, we are required to conduct a case study on the selected building. We need to create a mood board, a research on the building's background, material analysis and space analysis. It is important for us to analyze how the materials used affected the user's experience and justify its suitability and sustainability to used on site.
The building's design concept and function is closely related to the materials chosen and the weathering condition of Malaysia. The requirement of redrawing the plans and elevations etc also makes us clearer on how to indicate and show the materials used through plans.
